Went out yesterday for a few hours mulleting at a mark Greengrass showed me last week.
Fished about 2.5 hours upto low water when the fish buggered off.
When i got there there were a few fish topping and taking what looked to be buzzers just below the surface, so out came the fly rod!!!!
After about an hour with no takes i gave it up as a bad job. Think they were too preoccupied with the real thing to take my spider patterns.
So out came the float rod.... Had blended half a loaf of bread the night before....![[image]](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/Morecambebay/aa54e760.jpg)
And to that i added a whole mackeral that had also been put through the blender... (head and all...make sure you open a window!!!)![[image]](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/Morecambebay/6304c791.jpg)
Once that had been mixed around i added some water as the mix was still a little dry. Then took some of the mix and squeezed it in to balls, which were then literally chucked in roughly where i wanted to fish.
I also threw in maybe 2 slices of bread i had simply broke into pieces in my hand.
The spot i had chosen had a bit of a back eddy, this stopped my free offerings drifting out of the swim, and instead they just went round in circles.... any stray bits were picked up by the gulls!!!
Before long i had a few mullet sucking bread from the surface and it was time to set my rod up....![[image]](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/Morecambebay/d91d5c94.jpg)
Keeping things simple i trapped a 3xno4 crystal insert between two shots then enough shot bulked below it to c0ck the float. Below that i had about 6 inches of 6lb line, then a size 10 hook.
The bait was a half inch square of bread flake squeezed around the hook leaving no air in the bait so it would sink.
Before casting out i threw in a few more free offerings. Then it was time to go!!!
There were a few fish raoming in and out of the feeding area and felt sure sooner or later i would get a hook up. (Despite Greengrass saying i wouldnt have a chance the night before... )
In went the float... with the back eddy the float and bait seemed to drift around the same circle the free offerings were which i was liking the look of.... Simply by creating enough slack or tension i could keep my bait moving at the same speed too...
And after a couple of minutes the float went under, i struck, nothing....
This got my heart pumping a little to say the least....
Out went the bait again.... The float drifted round to same the same spot and under it went again, only this time the out come was a little more satisfying.
After a couple of minutes of a relentless fight, where line was taken, gained, taken, gained i netted a perfectly conditioned mullet of around 2.5 - 3lb![[image]](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15/Morecambebay/1eb22cfd.jpg)
Only a relatively small fish but a cracking fight on light tackle none the less. (and the look on the faces of a couple of guys further up bait fishing was worth the effort alone)
After returning the fish, the next task was to try to get the fish back into the swim, but with slack water approaching fast the fish moved down and out into the deeper water and all efforts to bring them back failed...
So it was decision time, either stick around for a couple of hours for the tide to move back up or leave it for the day and go and sit in a beer garden...... unfortunatly for you guys the beer was just too tempting on a red hot day!!
Although i only caught one fish, this was in a very short time, and with this experience locked in my head further visits to the same spot, i think, could prove more productive...
